THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting attended by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran and Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar has decided to take steps to improve the water supply system in the city. The demand for water in the city had gone up by one-and-half-times this summer and hence some areas were not getting sufficient water. Officials will visit areas facing water shortage and take steps to improve the situation. Valves would be properly operated to ensure supply to elevated areas. Besides, steps will be taken to prevent misuse of water. Mr. Premachandran said a 50,000-litre underground storage capacity would be built to solve water shortage at the General Hospital here. Pending this, temporary tanks would be installed to make up for the shortfall of 20,000 litres a day.
