Recession can be an opportunity: Isaac

Special Correspondent

Realistic approach vital, management graduates told

Convocation: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac with students who passed out of the Asian School of Business on the Technopark campus in the city on Thursday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “The younger generation should not feel threatened by recession. They should take it as an opportunity to practice new principles and acquire new skills,” Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said here on Thursday.

“It is a certainty that prospects shrink as an aftermath of the economic downturn across the world. However, opening up of geographical boundaries of the European markets has provided opportunities for many countries like China and India to do business in proportions never heard of before,” Mr. Isaac said while delivering the convocation address at the Asian School of Business (ASB) on the Technopark campus here.

He but reminded management graduates to be more realistic in their approach towards their pay and perks. The Minister also presented awards for best academic performance.

ASB board of governors chairman and TCS managing director S. Ramadorai awarded the diplomas to the third batch of PGPM students.

ASB director K. Ramakrishnan, patron George M. Thomas and V. Harihara Subramanian also spoke. “At a time when placements and new job opportunities are becoming difficult, nearly 50 per cent of the outgoing PGPM graduates have already received campus placements in prestigious companies across the country. It is expected that most students will get placed by the end of May or early June,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said. G. Vijaya Raghavan, member secretary, board of governors also attended.
