Dilshan delivers the goods for Delhi Daredevils yet again

The Sehwag-led side ends Deccan Chargers’ unbeaten run in the tournament

CENTURION: Deccan Chargers’ winning streak was brought to an end by Delhi Daredevils which registered a comfortable six-wicket victory in their Indian Premier League match here on Thursday.

Asked to bat, Chargers recovered from a disastrous start to score 148 for nine, thanks to Dwayne Smith’s fighting 48 off 28 deliveries. However, the total proved inadequate as Daredevils reached the target with eight balls to spare at the SuperSport Park.

Dinesh Karthik (41 off 30) and Tillakaratne Dilshan, who remained unbeaten on 52 off 46 balls, added 79 for the fourth wicket for Daredevils.

With 17 required off the last two overs, Dilshan cracked two boundaries off paceman Fidel Edwards and wrapped up the game in style with a six.

Dilshan had also guided his team to victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Daredevils began aggressively with Gautam Gambhir hitting the third delivery of the innings off Edwards to the fence.

Virender Sehwag then smashed two consecutive fours off R.P. Singh in the next over before falling for 20.

Earlier, Chargers got off to a terrible start with the in-form openers Adam Gilchrist (8) and Herschelle Gibbs (0) perishing quickly.

Dirk Nannes, who removed the openers, was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match after finishing with two for 16.— PTI
