Ibrahim scores a hat-trick

HYDERABAD: Syed Ibrahim scored a hat-trick as AC Guards Welfare Association scored an impressive 8-2 win over Young Hyderabad in the A-2 division hockey league championship here on Thursday.

Abdul Rehman, Akbar Khan and Mohd. Hanif scored one goal each and Sheikh Amer two for the winner. For Young Hyderabad, Musharraf and Azhar scored.

Earlier, two minutes silence was observed in memory of Reuben, a former State player and employee of BHEL, who passed away a few days ago. He was 61.

In the earlier round, Osmania University and AC Guards were locked in a 2-2 draw while Royal Club and Deccan Blues also played out a 1-1 draw.

AOC advances

AOC Centre recorded a 76-60 win over YMCA (Secunderabad) in the quarterfinals of the annual, Hyderabad district basketball league championship here.

The scores: AOC 76 (Sanjay 10, Rajesh 15, Soumya 12) bt YMCA Sec’bad 60 (Moses 12, Sai 10, Maradona 15).

Anirudh in final

A.L. Anirudh defeated K.V. Akash 4-1, 2-4, 4-2 in the boys’ under-14 singles semifinals of the Vijaya Madhavi AITA Talent Series tennis tournament.

The results (semifinals): Boys: U-12: M. Sri Jitesh Swamy bt Taha Kapadia 2-4, 4-0, 5-4(1); G. Aryan bt K. Sivadeep 4-0, 4-3; U-14: A.L. Anirudh bt K.V. Akash 4-1, 2-4, 4-2; V. Prithvihaas bt Anirudh Yadav 4-1, 4-0.

Doubles: K.V. Akash & Anirudh Yadav bt Yash Puri & Apuroop Reddy 5-3, 4-1; Prithvi Haas & P. Siddarth bt Taha Kapadia & Abhinav Macedo 5-4(0), 4-1.

Girls: U-12: Shreya Pai bt Harshita Rao 2-4, 5-3, 4-3; S. Nidhi bt C. Alekhya 2-4, 4-2, 4-2.

Referees’ exam

Andhra Pradesh Volleyball Association will organise a referees’ examination at the Government College of Physical Education (Domalguda) here on May 5. Interested may register their names with APVA along with an examination fee of Rs.300.
