Cricket Mahasangaram from today

NEW DELHI: Over 1000 teams from all the 12 districts of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association will take part in the inaugural Rs. 25-lakh Jaypee Cements Twenty20 Cricket ‘Mahasangaram’ beginning on Friday.

The five-week long event offers Rs. three lakh to the winning team, Rs. two lakh to the runner-up, Rs. 50,000 to the semifinalists, Rs. 21,000 to the district winners and Rs. 5,100 to the district runners-up.

Considering the magnitude and the logistics involved, the competition promises to be the first of its kind in the country

According to the HPCA President Anurag Thakur, the winner and runner-up from each of the 12 districts would qualify for the zonal phase leading to the final at the floodlit HPCA stadium at Dharamshala in early June. — Special Correspondent
