Kottayam girls in final
MANJERI: Kottayam girls entered the final in the State junior basketball championships on Thursday.
In the semifinal at the GBHSS court, Kottayam defeated Ernakulam 66-44. Jincy Joseph (24) and Sona M.Shaji (21) fashioned Kottayam’s win. M.D.Lisha (14) and Reyna (13) did the bulk of scoring for Ernakulam.
In the final, Kottayam will meet the winner of the semifinal match between Thrissur and Kannur. In the boy’s section, Alappuzha and Kottayam entered the semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, Alappuzha defeated Palakkad 38-12 while Alappuzha beat Pathanamthitta 31-9.
The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Kottayam bt Palakkad 38-13; Alappuzha 31 (Nithin Paul 11) bt Pathanamthitta 9.
Girls (semifinal): Kottayam 66 (Jincy Joseph 24, M. Shaji 21) bt Ernakulam 44 (M.D. Lisha 14, Reyna 13). Quarterfinals: Kannur bt Kozhkode 23-5.
