NEW DELHI: Yuki Bhambri stayed on course for another title as he outclassed Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Thursday. Qualifier Peerakit, who had beaten Yuki in the semifinals on way to the Asian junior title at Indore last year in their only previous meeting, possessed the game but not the tenacity to tackle the confident 16-year-old Indian. After a brisk start when he held serve at love in the opening game, Peerakit was unable to maintain the high standard and slipped into a clutch of errors. Yuki ran up a 5-1 lead with breaks in the third and fifth games. However, he missed two set points in the seventh game and dropped serve in the eighth. Yuki then broke the 18-year-old Thai in the ninth to take the first set. In the second, Yuki dropped serve in the first game, but quickly recovered to race past Peerakit. Yuki will meet another Thai qualifier, the stocky Weerapat Doakmaiklee, in the semifinals. National champion V.M. Ranjeet retired early in the second set against Weerapat owing to a problem with his vision. Klaasen meets VishnuIn the top half, the top-seeded Raven Klaasen of South Africa proved too good for Vivek Shokeen, while Vishnu Vardhan warded off a stiff challenge from Vijay Sundar Prashanth. It will be a repeat semifinal for Vishnu against the 26-year-old Klaasen whom he had beaten in memorable fashion last week, saving four match points in the second set. The results: Singles (quarterfinals): Raven Klaasen (RSA) bt Vivek Shokeen 6-2, 6-2. Vishnu Vardhan bt N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth 7-6(3), 6-0. Weerapat Doakmaiklee (Tha) bt V.M. Ranjeet 6-2, 1-0 (retd.). Yuki Bhambri bt Peerakit Siributwong (Tha) 6-3, 6-2. Doubles (semifinals): Divij Sharan & Vishnu Vardhan bt Yuki Bhambri & Rohan Gajjar 6-3, 6-4; Tushar Liberhan & Punna Vishal bt Jiri Krkoska (Cze) & Navdeep Singh 7-6(6), 7-6(4).
