THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The University of Kerala has decided to implement a computer-driven, singe-window admission system for postgraduate (PG) courses in its affiliated colleges. The details of this scheme will be worked out by a Syndicate sub-committee headed by Syndicate member Cyril Johnson. This was decided at a meeting of the Syndicate held here on April 29. Under the new system, the applications will be collected at the university itself instead of at the individual colleges. A software will then prepare the rank-list based on the candidates’ marks and his or her preference for a particular college and/or course. The system will be so designed that candidates would not have to rush from college to college looking for a seat, Dr. Johnson said here. The Syndicate decided to defer the ratification of the appointment of R. Johnson as Lecturer in the Department of Psychology. The Vice-Chancellor had issued the appointment order to avoid contempt of court proceedings. The Syndicate decided to file a review petition in the High Court against the appointment. The meeting also discussed the recent arrest of K. Padmakumar, Syndicate Member and Lecturer in the Department of Aquatic Biology, whom the department head had accused of refusing to accept orders for election duty. The Syndicate also discussed the contents of the letter written by the Head of the Department to the District Collector in this matter. The meeting also decided to seek an explanation from the Head of the Department. It was also decided that stringent disciplinary action would be initiated against her. It was decided at the meeting to organise the Indian Science Congress 2010 on the Kariavattom campus of the university. Syndicate member T. Rajmohan was appointed the regional secretary for the same.
