ALL ROUND DEVELOPMENT: Students being imparted training in energy technique at the summer coaching camp organised by Carpe Diem Consulting in Tiruchi.

TIRUCHI: The fortnight long summer course camp – Candy Floss - enabled a group young boys in the age group of 8–14 years to undergo unique experience in different fields including communication, dramatics, lateral thinking, public speaking, quizzing, self-esteem, personal effectiveness, etc.

The main objective of the camp organised by the city based Carpe Diem Consulting is to nurture creative ability of the youngsters and develop positive attitude towards life in a playway approach, according to its Director, Shaista Sivakumar.

The participants in the initial days of the camp visualised their dreams and made promises to themselves – to be honest and committed to their dreams, set goals that will take them closer to their dreams and pursue with passion. They were introduced to the concept of lateral thinking, to think out of the box and develop wide imagination without boundaries.

The youngsters, through an enjoyable session of dance medleys in teams, broke the barriers and inhibitions and discovered the principles of team building. They understood how to work together in teams, team leadership and team spirit.

Through a series of interesting games like ‘word association’, ‘tell me why’ they exercised their brain towards quick thinking and quick response and mental alertness in the mind skills session. They took another innovative step forward and recreated interesting episodes of Tom and Jerry giving imagination a wild ride.

Added to this they designed newspaper outfits in teams and displayed their wares in a unique fashion show. This enabled them to master the art of innovation and creative thinking.

The camp consisted of a train journey to Karur. While travelling, they interviewed the co-passengers on their hobbies, favourites, unique experiences, and made new friends.

The fundas of street theatre – this is what they learnt, observed, practised and demonstrated in a very interesting session conducted by a renowned street theatre artiste Lenin and Kala. They were taught the basics of street theatre, right from doing the settings, to the themes, the style of performance, body language, etc.

‘A slice of village life’ was the theme of the session that made the youngsters environment conscious, eco-friendly and taught them to appreciate nature and live in harmony with nature.

In yet another session, they took a multiple intelligences test, the results of which gave them an idea of which intelligence was pre-dominant in each one of them.

The final two days were devoted to mastering the art of public speaking.
