Vivek shocks Divij Sharan

NEW DELHI: Vivek Shokeen shocked the seventh-seeded Divij Sharan 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Wednesday.

In a contest that lasted two hours and 45 minutes under oppressive conditions, the 21-year-old Vivek broke Divij with a stinging forehand passing shot in the eighth game.

Opting to put the second serves in play, Vivek wound up the show with a backhand down the line passing shot on his third match point. It was Vivek’s third victory in four meetings against Divij in the international circuit.

Easy for Yuki

Yuki Bhambri proved too good for Punna Vishal, who had knocked out the second seed in the first round. The champion of the last tournament, the 16-year-old Yuki will face qualifier Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand in the last eight stage.
