Maharashtra blanks Himachal
Margao: Maharashtra on Wednesday opened its campaign on a rousing note when it blanked Himachal Pradesh 8-0 in the under-21 National football championship, at Signal ground in Navelim.
Maharashtra toyed with HP to go 3-0 up at half time with Royston D’Souza giving his team the lead in the 9th minute.
Linekar Machado, who accounted for four goals, swelled Maharashtra’s lead by scoring the next two in the 14th and 30th minute, respectively.
Praweel Mendon increased the tally in the 55th as his team continued to torment its rivals with short passes. Machado then came back to haunt HP as he completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute. A goal each by Sam Cruz and K. Inder Kumar Amin put the match beyond HP’s control before Machado rounded off the tally with his fourth goal. — PTI
