Good show by Negi

NEW DELHI: Young Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi tied for the second spot behind French champion Sebastian Feller in the inaugural Grand Prix de I’Essonne chess tournament in Paris earlier this week.

Returning to competitive chess after a three-month break due to his Class X exams, the second-seeded lad twice defeated top-seeded Ukrainian GM Sergey Fedorchuk, rated 64 points above at 2656, and went on to aggregate 3.5 points in this four-player double round-robin event.

The youngster won the final round against Luxembourg’s Alberto David to avenge the loss suffered in the third round. Against Feller, who tallied 4.5 points, Parimarjan lost the second round and drew the fifth. The 15-year-old, rated at 2592, stands to gain five rating points from this performance.
