Mumbai: Sixteen teams will take part in BCCI’s first Corporate Trophy one-day limited over tournament to be played in September. “We will be having a meeting with private and public sector undertakings in a month’s time to finalise the competition. The objective of the tournament is to generate employment for cricketers. Ensuring employment“We have made it clear that the cricketers who would be playing the competition have to be permanent employees of the company. We don’t want cricketers to be on contract with the company. This will ensure employment for 300 cricketers,” said Shashank Manohar, president, BCCI after a working committee meeting. The BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan said more than 16 companies and PSUs have shown interest. “There are several private companies, PSUs and banks that have been playing in the TNCA-run Buchi Babu, Hyderabad CA-run Moin-ud-Dowla and other tournaments for several years. So they are all very well known,” said Mr. Srinivasan. The BCCI has also decided not to allot international matches to associations that do not own a stadium. “This would come into effect from the AGM in September,” said Mr. Manohar. Goa, Kerala, Assam, Orissa, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Baroda are some of the associations that do not own a stadium. Srinivasan expressed satisfaction on the initiatives taken by the state associations to establish its own academies. “Majority of them are functioning. We have asked for reports from all the associations.” — Special Correspondent
