Five companies of Central forces for southern districts

TIRUNELVELI: Five companies of Central forces will be deployed in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts for election bandobust, Inspector-General of Police, South Zone, Sanjeev Kumar has said.

During an informal chat with the reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, after inspecting the Government College of Engineering here, the counting centre for votes polled in Tirunelveli constituency, said that while two companies had been allotted for Tirunelveli segment, Tenkasi (Reserved), Tuticorin and Kanyakumari constituencies would get one company each.

Central forces would be deployed along with the local police and police personnel in adequate strength posted in sensitive and hypersensitive booths.Collector and Returning Officer of Tirunelveli Lok Sabha segment R. Palaniyandi, Police Commissioner M.N. Manjunatha, DCPs T. Jayachandran (Law and Order), D. Kalpana Nayak (Crime and Traffic), Corporation Commissioner T. Mohan, Palayamkottai tahsildar Gana. Muruganandam accompanied the IG.

In a statement, Dr. Palaniyandi said parties and candidates should get prior permission in writing from the authorities for establishing temporary election booths, which should not come up on public place or on an encroached area and near places of worship and hospitals. The booths should be 200 metres away from the polling station and 100 metres away from the temporary election booth of another candidate and can have only one party flag and a banner in 8 feet X 4 feet size carrying the symbol.Training for Presiding Officers and the Grade I Polling Officers would be held on April 30 while the Grade II, III and IV officers would undergo training on May 1. Second phase would be held on May 4 and 5.
