Preparedness reviewed
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness of various agencies to deal with swine flu, in case the virus hit India.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Union Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar, took stock of the availability of medicines such as Tamiflu and took measures to ensure enhanced production in case the need arose.
The Cabinet Secretary was informed that things were in readiness, particularly after India’s experience in dealing with SARS and avian influenza, an official spokesperson said here after the meeting.
Apart from enhanced surveillance at international airports to detect entry of the disease in India, quarantine areas will be identified at the airports to segregate passengers, if required. The screening of passengers arriving will be done at the nine identified international airports.
