Now it is ‘99999’ Lights Out campaign

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: An awareness campaign on the effects of global warming was launched in the city on Sunday.

To mark the launch of the ‘99999’ Lights Out awareness campaign, R. Christodas Gandhi, principal secretary, Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, switched on Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.

He urged people to participate in large numbers in the campaign.

Exnora International founder M.B. Nirmal said the ‘99999’ Lights Out campaign involved switching off the lights on September 9 at 9 p.m. for nine minutes. He said the ‘88888’ campaign organised last year was very successful and covered a wide gamut of corporate and educational institutions.

Radio jockey Dheena said that people should consider global warming as a global warning for the people to start conserving energy.

Website www.99999.co.in providing information about global warming and climate change has been launched by Exnora International.
