‘Dera followers to vote independently’

Chandigarh: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Sunday said that he left it to his followers to vote for whichever party they wanted in the Lok Sabha polls and made it clear that the political wing of the sect was an independent body.

Replying to questions from devotees and journalists at the monthly ‘satsang’ at the sect headquarters at Sirsa in Haryana, he said the sect’s political wing was “an entirely different organ which conducts its internal meetings”.

“I have never been concerned with politics, at present or in the past. Devotees vote unitedly on their own will,” he said when asked if the wing was governed by him.

The Dera’s political wing held a separate meeting on Sunday at the sect headquarters and they will take a final decision on May 3 when the next meeting will be held, Dera sources said.
