Big welcome: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda (second from right) with Congress candidate Kumari Selja at an election rally in Ambala on Sunday. AMBALA: Even though the general public at large may prefer to sit at home on Sunday especially when the summer is at its peak, enthusiastic Congress workers sit patiently braving the sultry weather to hear their leaders especially Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at election meetings in the reserved Ambala constituency. Mr. Hooda leaves Chandigarh at around 10.30 a.m. accompanied by prominent leaders and hops onto the chartered helicopter and soon lands at Barwala where he addresses his first meeting. He is joined by sitting Congress MP and Union Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja who is seeking re-election and is facing a triangular contest. Crowds cheer when Ms. Selja, Haryana Congress Unit chief Phool Chand Mullana and Mr.Hooda reach the dais and address them highlighting the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre and the State Government. They counter the criticism of the Opposition through rhetoric and logic and assert that it is only the Congress which can continue the process of transforming the nation and the State so far as integral development is concerned. Later in Ambala City, the leaders are welcomed by local MLA and Chairman of the Haryana Congress Campaign Committee Venod Sharma who has organized the road show. They move towards the venue where hundreds of workers are gathered to listen to the speeches. While asserting that the opposition has no positive outlook, Mr.Hooda reiterates that it is the UPA Government which has brought laurels to the country in the world arena. Not only this, the economic policies scripted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have not only reversed the inflationary trends but also lessened the impact of global recession. Interestingly Mr.Hooda tells the audience that there is no dissidence in the Congress and while appreciating the development works unleashed in Ambala by Ms.Selja and Mr.Venod Sharma, he appeals to the people to attend the election rally of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Ambala on April 30. The VVIPs leave for Barara in the constituency where they are scheduled to address another election meeting.
