MCD ward committee office-bearers elected

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi elected members to the post of chairman and deputy chairman of six ward committees from six zones in separate meetings held at the MCD headquarters in Town Hall here this past week.

From City Zone Ubead Iqbal and Khurram Iqbal of the Lok Janshakti Party were elected to the post of chairman and deputy chairman respectively, while from Sadar Paharganj Zone it was Shyam Lal Morwal and Nirmal Nobal of the Bharatiya Janata Party who were elected.

From Shahdara (North) Manoj Kumar Tyagi and Sanjay Surjan of the BJP were elected and from Central Zone it was O.P. Sharda and Ravinder Chaudhary of the BJP.

Similarly for South Zone it was Kapila Rani Gaur and Kartar Singh Tanwar of the BJP who won the election and from Rohini Zone it was Suresh Bhardwaj and Parvesh Wahi of the BJP who were elected to the post of chairman and deputy chairman respectively.

Unanimous

All the chairmen and deputy chairmen were elected unanimously without voting except in the case of Central Zone where they were elected through an election. Central Zone Ward Committee comprises 28 members in total out of which 13 belong to the BJP, 12 to the Congress and three to the Bahujan Samaj Party, whose members abstained from the meeting for the election.

Following elections for Central Zone Ward Committee, Mr. Sharda secured 13 votes to be declared elected to the post of chairman against Khavinder Singh Captain of the Congress who got 11 votes while Ravinder Chaudhary of the BJP was declared elected for the post of deputy chairman after he secured 14 votes against Congress candidate Mahesh Awana who got 10 votes.

Earlier on April 24 members were elected to the post of chairman and deputy chairman of six other ward committees from six other zones along with members of the Standing Committee from their respective ward committees. These zones were Civil Lines, Najafgarh, Karol Bagh, West, Shahdara (South) and Narela.
