‘Avoid eating charred red meat’

NEW DELHI: Eating burned or charred red meat, like that cooked on a grill, regularly can increase the chances of pancreatic cancer by 60 per cent, Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal has said. Turning down the heat when grilling, frying and barbecuing to avoid excess burning or charring of the meat might be a sensible way for some people to lower their risk of getting pancreatic cancer, he added. According to Kristin Anderson of the University of Minnesota, charred meat contains several known cancer-causing chemicals.
