Magesh, Konguvel begin well

KODUNGALLUR: Grandmaster P. Magesh Chandran, the top seed from Tamil Nadu, and ONGC’s second-seeded P. Konguvel opened their campaigns with easy wins in the Rotary Federal Bank all-India FIDE-rated chess tournament which began here on Thursday.

The results (first round): T. Saji (Ker) lost to P. Magesh Chandran (TN); P. Konguvel (ONGC) bt V. Gautham (TN); K. Mammen (Ker) lost to B.T. Murali Krishnan (S. Rly); K. Ratnakaran (S. Rly) bt Jeevanandam (TN); K.S. Radhakrishnan (Ker) lost to Arghyadip Das (WB); M. Shyam Sunder (TN) bt N. Akshaya (TN); Keerthan Prabhu (Kar) lost to Himanshu Sharma (Hary).

Saptarshi Roy (E. Rly) bt P.K. Ratheesh (Ker), S. Anilkumar (Ker) lost to Dinesh Sharma (LIC); Matta Vinay Kumar (AP) bt A. Noushad (Ker); Mohammed Salih (Ker) lost to Ram S. Krishnan (BSNL).
