Give ultimatum to Colombo: Karunanidhi

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi to “give an ultimatum to the Sri Lankan government for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sri Lanka and save the lakhs of Tamils in Sri Lanka.”
In identical telegrams to the Prime Minister, UPA chairperson and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, he said: “The war-like situation in Sri Lanka is alarming and the predicament of the Tamils is very critical.”
All nations and the UN had urged the Sri Lankan government to announce a ceasefire immediately.
“I insist that the Prime Minister, the UPA chairperson and the EAM to give an ultimatum to the Sri Lankan government for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sri Lanka and save the lakhs of Tamils in Sri Lanka.”
