Engineering results delayed

Anna University Tiruchi conducted first semester engineering exams in January this year. The results of this exam is not published till date and either the probable date of announcement results or the reason for delay is not published in the website. Moreover, the students are likely to complete second semester classes in another month’s time and they have to prepare for the next semester exams without knowing their first semester results.

While Anna University, Chennai has already published their results, the reasons for delay is not known.

Congrats, Railways!

This refers to the running of heritage special of Southern Railway between Tiruvarur and Mayiladuturai on April 5 by steam loco. The programme was marvellous. The overwhelming support from public is appreciable. Many people who have seen the operation of steam locos only in film and paper might have been benefited. Hats off to the Railways!

Summer specials for Nagore, please

Thanks to the Railways for introducing short distance summer specials in Tiruchi- Karaikudi-Manamadurai-Madurai sector.

There is a huge demand for more trains in Tiruchi-Thanjavur-Thiruvarur-Nagore section also. I request the authority to consider introducing specials in this route also.

Pension enhancement delayed

The Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) through its letter No.PC VI-49 – RBE No.181/2008 and No. F(E) III/2008/PN1/12 of 18.11.2008 with a notation ‘immediate’ has communicated to General manager/ FA & CAO All India Railways instructing them to monitor the process and ensure the disbursement of enhanced pension payments etc. by 30.11.2008 to all Railway pensioners.

In spite of the deadline the disbursing authorities do not seem bothered. They forget the saying “hoist with one’s own petard”.

Specify property tax ceiling

All municipal corporations have increased property tax consequent to GO 150 dated 12/11/2007 of Municipal Administration and Water Supply department. While the GO specifies a maximum hike of 25 per cent for residential property, tax assesses assessed prior to 01/04/2008, the GO has not specified any ceiling for assessment rate post 01/04/2008 over the previous assessment rate. For example, for a residential area in Tiruchi Corporation where the old assessment rate was Re. 1 per sq. ft, the new assessment rate works out to Rs. 1.92 per sq.ft. This is a sudden and an exorbitant rise of 100 per cent putting a heavy burden on new home aspirants. I request the Tamil Nadu Government to specify the maximum ceiling for new property tax assessees.

Bank counter not working

The Indian Bank counter in Srirangam Municipal building meant to collect property and other taxes of the corporation is not functioning satisfactorily. Many times, collection of taxes is refused and the counter is kept closed, saying that the computer network is not functioning. This puts the customers to difficulty as they are made to visit several times.

I wonder how the corporation is keeping quiet. The corporation authorities cannot take people’s patience for granted.

Voter card errors

Mistakes in name, sex, street name, house number are very common in the EPICs. If Election Commission provides online arrangements for these corrections, it is most welcome for the public. After corrections, the Election Commission can send the new ID cards to the addresses.

Dirty practice of bus conductors

Most conductors in the city buses issue tickets to passengers after touching their saliva. They do this to avoid sticking of the tickets. It is high time this unhygienic method is stopped.

In these days of high technical advancement is it not possible to find a way to issue tickets? A sponge cup can help. Will the authorities in change of public health intervene?

Operate more flights to Saudi Arabia

With the opening of the new passenger terminal in Tiruchi, the airport authorities can operate more international flights to Saudi Arabia. Also operating some Haj flights from Tiruchi would be beneficial to the people in the central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
