Follow temple tradition

A temple of Lord Muruga in Tamilnadu, under Government Control, which used to remain closed between noon and 4 p.m., in accordance with the tradition, till a few years ago, now remains open right from the morning till night, thus breaking the tradition.

The devotees too feel that the temple tradition should be followed as far as ‘darshan’ hours are concerned or else it is nothing but completion of formalities or namesake having no satisfaction.

I request the authorities to maintain the tradition of temple, by closing them between noon and 4 p.m.

K.K. Krishnamurthy,

Tiruchendur.

Use land to avoid encroachment

The land allotted for a stadium of the Sports Authority of India and administrative office at Thekkurichy seashore by the State Government is prone to encroachment as the proposed site has been abandoned by the Government due to reasons best known to the authorities. So the Government may either establish a university (Arts and science or Agriculture or Engineering) or else construct buildings for government departments or staff quarters. Anna University can function from here instead of Tirunelveli by which the long felt needs of this district can also be fulfilled.

Renovate bridge

The bridge that was built over the Tamiraparani during the British period at Srivaikundam in Tuticorin district is in dire need of complete overhaul since its condition is bad now.

The bridge connects Srivaikundam with the Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli National Highway. Till date, vehicles have to wait on one end for those coming from the opposite direction because of the narrow width of the bridge. As a result, traffic congestion is a common sight here.It may be noted that around Rs.9 crore was allotted by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for renovation of the bridge. Right now, there are no signs of starting the renovation work.

I request the Highways authorities and other administrative officials concerned to look into the matter immediately and take urgent steps to renovate the bridge.

P. Senthil Saravana Durai,

Vazhavallan, Tuticorin district.

Signboards on roads

The signboards on the side of the roads exhibiting information on the approaching places remain defaced with wall posters and advertisements thus defeating the purpose for which they are installed. Due to this, the road-users get confused without any guidance as to which road they should take to reach their destinations.

To avoid this, the Government should erect high metal or concrete posts on either side of the road and connect the two posts with large board at a higher level exhibiting the places written with reflector paints.

There is no use of laying broad roads without proper guidance to the users. As the proposed method of installation at a higher level will prevent the sign boards being used for other purpose, such sign boards will be of great help to motorists and public.

Asmabagh Anvardeen,

Ramanathapuram.
