Filing of nominations gathers pace in Ariyalur and Perambalur

ARIYALUR: Former Union Minister and the Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate for the Chidambaram (Reserved) Lok Sabha constituency, E. Ponnuswamy, filed his nominations on Monday before the Returning Officer and District Collector of Ariyalur Anil Meshram.

A party functionary Aalavandar, vice-president of Kattumannarkovil Panchayat Union, also filed nominations as a dummy candidate in the Lok Sabha constituency that was redrawn and accorded reserved status in the delimitation exercise. The PMK locks horns with its erstwhile ally Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) in this constituency. Meanwhile, on behalf of the VCK, a dummy candidate Ayyasamy filed his nominations. The party founder Thol. Thirumavalavan, is contesting as an alliance partner of the DMK-led front. He had lost to the sitting MP and PMK’s nominee by a margin of nearly 2.5 lakh votes in the 2004 elections. Due to shortcomings in the nominations she filed on last Saturday, an Independent, Senthamilselvi filed a fresh nomination on Monday.

Perambalur

The AIADMK candidate K.K. Balasubramanian filed his nominations before the Collector and Returning Officer for Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency R. Sudalaikannan. P. Ilavalagan filed nominations as the dummy candidate.

Mr. Balasubramanian is the replacement for R.P. Marudaraj whom the AIADMK initially chose for this constituency where the party will have a direct fight with its arch rival DMK. Film star turned politician Napoleon is the DMK candidate. Three others to file their nominations today were V. Srinivasan of Makkal Manattu Katchi, N. Senthilkumar of Rastriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party and K. Ramasamy, Independent.
