Heavy rain brings respite from heat

KRISHNAGIRI: A sudden downpour with thunder storm brought respite from the summer heat in Krishnagiri and the surrounding area on Monday evening. There was moderate rain in Dharmapuri town in the evening with strong winds in the evening.
In Salem
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Salem and Namakkal districts on Monday evening. The rains brought a sigh of relief to the people in the two districts reeling under the scorching sun for the past several weeks. The sky remained cloudy and cool weather prevailed in the evening. The rains lasted for about an hour in Salem city and it suburbs.
Power supply remained disrupted for a few hours in many parts of the district as power cables got snapped during the strong winds. Traffic in a few parts were also affected.
In Salem city, almost all the drainage channels overflowed flooding the roads. Sewage mixed with rainwater entered houses in the low-lying areas.
