Nine candidates file nominations

KRISHNAGIRI: Nine candidates filed nomination papers on Monday in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.

In Krishnagiri district, K. Nanje Goud (AIADMK) filed nomination papers at the District Election Office. He is a lawyer practicing in Hosur. He had unsuccessfully contested against E.G. Sugavanam in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Both of them are locking horns again in the same constituency this time.

Former MP K.P. Munusamy, former State Minister K.P. Anbazhagan, District Secretary S. Thennarasu and T.A. Meghanathan, MLA, accompanied him. K. Venkatesan of Uzhaipali Makkal Katchi filed his nomination papers.

M. Latha alias Vijayalatha, a Sidha practitioner, filed nomination papers as Independent candidate. In Dharmapuri, Dr. R. Senthil of Pattali Makkal Katchi filed nomination papers to the District Election Officer P. Amutha. He is contesting from this constituency for the second time. Party president G.K. Mani, P. Dillibabu, MLA, AIADMK district secretary K.E. Krishnamoorthy, and CPI district secretary P. Ilamparuthi accompanied him.

Dr. V. Elangovan of DMDK filed nomination papers. P. Arivazhagan of Mecheri in Mettur and K. Ananda Kumar of Pappireddipatti taluk filed nomination papers as Independent candidates.

Salem

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates for Salem and Namakkal Lok Sabha constituencies and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Namakkal Lok Sabha candidate filed their nominations on Monday.

AIADMK’s Salem candidate S. Semmalai, who was a former minister in the State, filled his nomination at the Collectorate functioning temporarily in Fairlands. He along with the supporters from his party and allies arrived at the Collectorate in the afternoon and handed over the nomination papers to Collector J. Chandrakumar.

AIADMK’s Salem Urban District secretary M.K. Selvaraj filed the papers as a dummy candidate for Mr. Semmalai.

In Namakkal, Vairam Tamilarasi, contesting as the AIADMK’s candidate, filed her papers at the Collectorate.

A party functionary C. Ramalingam filed the nomination as a dummy candidate for Vairam Tamilarasi.

District Election Officer and Collector U. Sagayam received the papers.

The DMK candidate, S. Gandhiselvan, Namakkal district secretary of the party, also filed his papers on Monday.

Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy, MLAs and party supporters accompanied him during the filing of nomination.

Two independents Vivekanandam and Lingappan also filed their papers to contest from the Namakkal constituency.
