Thrissur enters girls’ final

NILESHWARAM: Thrissur entered the girls’ final in the 29th State youth basketball championships at the Rajas HSS floodlit court on Monday.

Thrissur overcame Kasaragod 55-43 in the semifinals and in the final, it will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Kannur and Kottayam.

In the semifinals, Delphy Nixon (24) and Geetha (16) did the bulk of scoring for Thrissur, while Greeshma Thomas (13) and Rejitha (12) strove manfully for the loser.

In the boys’ section, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta entered the semifinals.

The results: Boys: Quarterfinals: Kottayam 31 (Akhil 10) bt Malappuram 12; Alappuzha 65 (Sarath Shankar 23, Rahim 19, Jerin Kuriakose 13) bt Wayanad 38 (Anish 10); Ernakulam 66 (Hilary Aldrin 16, Samson James 13) bt Pathanamthitta (Denny George 16, Arun K. Thomas 11).

Girls: Semifinals: Thrissur 55 (Delphy Nixon 24, Geetha 16) bt Kasaragod 43 (Greeshma Thomas 13, Rejitha 12).

Quarterfinals: Kannur 37 (P.S. Jeena 15, P.R. Surya 11) bt Kollam 32 (Anjana 14); Kottayam 45 (K.S. Poojamol 20) bt Malappuram 37 (Shaicy P. Shaji 14).
