Treat stroke with urgency of a heart attack: expert

Staff Reporter

Chennai: A stroke should be treated with the same urgency as a heart attack, according to Ramprasad Sengupta, consultant neurosurgeon, New Castle Upon Tyne Hospitals, U.K.

A cerebral stroke occurs when a person rapidly loses brain functionality due to lack of blood supply to the brain.

Dr.Sengupta, who was honoured with a visiting professorship at Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University Thursday, said too many people dismiss strokes as untreatable, and therefore do not act immediately. .
