DMK candidate suffers sun stroke before filing nominations

TIMELY HELP: Adhi Sankar. DMK candidate for Kallakurichi Lok Sabha seat, stumbled before filling his nominations at Kallakurichi on Monday. Minister of State for Law K.Venkatapathi helping him to recover.

VILLUPURAM: Adhi Sankar, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for the Kallakurichi parliamentary constituency, had a sun stroke prior to filing his nominations on Monday.

When Mr Sankar, along with Union Minister of State for Law K.Venkatapathi, was waiting in a mini van to start the procession he collapsed.

Mr Sankar was standing exposed to the hot sunlight from 11 a.m., waiting for the arrival of Education Minister K.Ponmudy to join him. The Minister came around 12 noon and during the time Mr Sankar suffered from excessive heat.

After taking the glucose mixture, Mr Sankar recovered and began the procession towards the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer where he filed four nominations with S.Valarmathi, Returning Officer and Special Officer of the Kallakurichi Cooperative Sugarmills.

Another DMK cadre Janaki had filed her papers as a dummy candidate for Mr. Sankar. Later, speaking to the presspersons Mr. Ponmudy said though the Pattali Makkal Katchi was not in the Democratic Progressive Alliance the cadres of all other constituent parties participated in the procession.

After a short while K.Dhanraj, Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate, too filed his papers for the Kallakurichi Lok Sabha seat.

For the Villupuram (Reserve) constituency, former Minister M.Anandan of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and his dummy candidate Thanikachalam, and, B.M. Ganapathi of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam filed their nominations with District Collector R.Palanisamy.

For the Chidambaram (Reserve) constituency E.Ponnusami of the PMK filed his papers with Ariyalur District Collector Anil Meshram. Three other Independents too submitted their papers.

For the Cuddalore constituency, M.C.Damodaran of the DMDK and his dummy candidate P.Sivakolundu, M.C.Sampath of the AIADMK and his dummy candidate R.Rajendran, S.Vijayal of the Samajvadi Party and M.Subramanian, Independent, filed their papers with District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo.
