PM to cast vote in Assam

Special Correspondent

Guwahati: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said here on Sunday that he and his wife Gursharan Kaur would cast their votes in Assam when the State goes to the polls in the second phase on April 23.

He was addressing the press on the sidelines of an election rally at Amingaon, near here.

Dr. Singh did not exercise his choice in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls and the 2006 Assembly polls.

“Yes, I will come here for voting on April 23. My wife will also vote with me,” he said.

Dr. Singh and Ms. Kaur’s names are in the voters list for a polling centre at the Dispur Government Higher Secondary School under the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.

The Prime Minister represents the State in the Rajya Sabha. He has been elected to the Upper House from the State four consecutive times since 1991. Dr. Singh has a rented house on the premises of the former Chief Minister, Hiteswar Saikia’s residence at Sarumotoria here.
