Man accused of rape found unconscious Crime Notes

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The 38-year-old interior decorator, who had been arrested on rape charge on Wednesday, escaped from the Girinagar police station on Friday and was later found lying unconscious near the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission office at the premises of M.S. Building.

The police suspect that the accused Narendra Sharma (38), an architect residing in Venkatappa Layout in Girinagar, may have come to the M.S. Building to file a “harassment complaint” against the Girinagar police. The Girinagar police arrested him after a 30-year-old woman made the charges.

The police said that Narendra had allegedly developed physical relationship with the complainant after promising to marry her. She had two children from him. However, he allegedly developed relationship with another woman and refused to marry the complainant, the police said.

On Friday morning, the accused was allowed to answer the nature’s call, and the constable deployed to guard him removed the handcuff. “Taking advantage of the situation, Narendra escaped,” a police official said.

Two drown

Two girls drowned in separate incidents on Friday.

The body of an eight-year-old girl was found in Chikkavvana Lake near Soladevanahalli on Friday morning. According to the Soladevanahalli police, the girl was wearing government school uniform. The identity of the girl is yet to be ascertained, the police said.

In another case, a 12-year-old girl drowned in Balenahalli Lake in Magadi taluk on Friday. According to Magadi police, Lakshmi drowned while she attempted to save her brother Muniraju (6), who accidentally fell into the lake. The residents of Balenahalli rescued Muniraju and later recovered the body of Lakshmi.
