Youth drowns in lake

A 17-year-old youth drowned in lake formed in an abandoned quarry in Zamin Pallavaram on Friday. The youth, a school dropout, had come to the spot with three of his friends from Stalin Nagar in Nungambakkam.

Pallavaram police said S.Jagadeesh had come to the lake for a swim along with three of his friends, D.Dilip Kumar (16), V.Madhavan (17) and S.Harikrishnan (14), also school dropouts and neighbours of Jagadeesh at Stalin Nagar. Except Harikrishnan, the three others knew to swim.

Residents said depth of water in the lake was more than 100 feet.
