Successive Governments have failed to upgrade infrastructure in Tirupur, says Vijayakant

Campaigns for party candidate Dinesh Kumar in Tirupur Parliamentary constituency

Tirupur: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder Vijayakant urged the electors to cast their votes for his party candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls as an alternative to DMK and AIADMK-led alliances which had ‘looted tax payers money’.

Campaigning for his party’s candidate Dinesh Kumar in Tirupur Parliamentary constituency on Friday, he pointed out that his decision to contest alone was based on ‘ethics’.

“He accused the successive governments in the state of failing to upgrade the infrastructure in the knitwear cluster of Tirupur and to solve the problems faced by the dyers.

“It should be noted that the exemplary entrepreneurial skills displayed by the businessmen here only helped Tirupur to find a prominent place in the global textile map not because of any significant government assistance to the sector,” he said.

He lashed out at both the DMK and AIADMK for the present power crisis faced by the textile industry which had forced the units to cut down the number of work shifts.

“None of the governments in the last few years have bothered to augment power production as well as look into the welfare of workers in this cluster,” he said.

He also came down heavily on leaders of Left parties and Pattali Makkal Katchi for criticising the Congress at the Centre during the last five years. Mr. Vijayakant addressed the public at Rakkiapalayampirivu, near State Transport Corporation depot along Kangayam road, M.S. Nagar, K.V.R. Nagar, Anupparpalayam and Thattanthottam, before moving to Avinashi.
