No nominations filed in Tirupur
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: Filing of nomination for the forthcoming elections commenced in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Friday. No nominations were filed on the first day.
Officials
Official sources said that candidates could file their nomination papers either with the Returning Officer or with the Assistant Returning Officers between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. till April 24.
The candidates were allowed to be accompanied by an election agent, a proposer and a person nominated by the candidate himself.
In the case of general contestants for the seat, the security deposit had been fixed at Rs 10,000.
The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe were entitled for a 50 percent concession on the security deposit.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Returning Officers and the Assistant Returning Officers of the constituency had been asked to prepare a checklist of documents that had been filed by the candidates.
While the original checklist form would be retained at the office of Returning Officer, a duplicate copy of the same would be handed over to the candidate.
“This will avoid any confusion later,” Collectorate sources said.
