Five persons file papers on first day

Three independents in fray in two districts

Noble mission: Brigadier S. Sivaraman of Rashtriya Raksha Dal submitting his nomination papers to the District Election Officer, V.K. Shanmugam, at the Krishnagiri Collectorate on Friday. —

KRISHNAGIRI: Five persons filed nominations, including three independent candidates one in Krishnagiri and two in Dharmapuri districts.

C. Gowrappa (55) filed his nomination papers for the Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate. He hails from Yeganapalli village at Thippaganapalli panchayat in Sulagiri Union. He contested five times for the Assembly elections and lost. This is the first time he has filed papers for a Lok Sabha seat. He is a farmer by profession.

Brigadier S. Sivaraman of Denkanikottai region filed his nomination papers. He is contesting as a candidate of the Rashtriya Raksha Dal, a party founded in 1999 by the ex-servicemen of Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana. He chose to contest the election under the RRD ticket to develop the backward region and raise voice on behalf of the ex-servicemen and those in the armed forces.

Both these candidates filed their papers on the first day of the nominations on Friday to District Election Officer V.K. Shanmugam at the Collectorate.

In Dharmapuri, three candidates filed their nomination papers.

Dr. K. Padmarajan of Mettur Ramanagaram and R. Mani of Mettur filed their papers as independents. K. Annadurai of Boothanatham village near Menaci in Pappireddypatti taluk also entered the fray. He is contesting on behalf of the Uzhaipazhar Makkal Katchi.

All the three filed their papers to District Election Officer P. Amutha at the Collectorate.
