Nobody files papers for Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency

THENI: Independent candidate P. Pandian of NRT Nagar in Theni filed his nomination paper with Returning Officer for Theni Lok Sabha constituency P. Muthuveeran here on Friday. Adequate police were deployed at the collectorate for security duty.

Neither individuals nor candidates representing political parties filed their nomination papers on the first day of filing nominations in Dindigul.

The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for filing nomination at the collectorate. All the necessary forms were kept ready and all election officials were present since morning.

While election officials drew 100-metre mark on both directions of Dindigul-Thadikombu Main Road from the office of the District Collector cum Returning Officer for Dindigul constituency, the police installed two barricades and set up special check-posts to stop the excess crowd at this point. Adequate police force was deployed before these two check posts near the collectorate to block crowd and vehicles. Additional police led by traffic inspector were posted at Anjali roundabout on Dindigul-Karur Bypass to regulate vehicles and provide adequate security to candidates. ‘Ashtami’ day prevented both political and independents from filing nominations.

Election officials said that filing of nominations would not pick up on Saturday, Navami Day, too.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates were expected to file their nomination papers in Dindigul and Theni districts on Monday.
