‘Pledge to vote’ walk tomorrow

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: “Let’s vote”, a nationwide campaign, initiated by Let’s Vote and Round Table India, have announced the “pledge to vote” walk on Sunday, from BRV grounds.

The “pledge to vote” walk on Sunday will be flagged off by musician Ehsaan Noorani at 8 a.m. from B.R.V. Parade ground, Mahatma Gandhi Road and will pass through Cubbon Road, Queen’s Road and M.G. Road and return to B.R.V. grounds.

J.A. Chowdhary, founder, Let’s Vote Campaign, said on Friday that their aim was to spread awareness among the educated youth and professionals from the urban areas.

“The campaign kicked off two months ago in Hyderabad. After its successful launch in Goa, Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam, we are now expanding our network to Bangalore and other cities,” said Mr. Chowdhary.

“The walk on Sunday will be followed by a ’pledge to vote’ walk in Mysore on the following Sunday,” he added.

Naveen Pishe, Chairman, Round Table India, said, “Of the 700 million voters of our country, only 40 per cent of them exercise their right to vote.

This campaign is an effort to get the remaining 60 per cent of the voters to come out and exercise their right and participate in electing the right candidate.”

Addressing the media, Mr. Chowdhary said the campaign would not conclude after the elections, but would continue with other main activities such as checking irregularities in issuing elector photo identity cards and to make sure that every individual possessed an EPIC.
