Elected representatives blamed for poor implementation of projects Bangalore: Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s plans to supply water for irrigation and other purposes for villages around Channapatna and Ramanagara has remained unfulfilled, feel voters of Bangalore Rural parliamentary constituency. The people of these towns blame the elected representatives irrespective of political parties for not giving due importance for implementing Sir MV’s plans. Also, many tanks in the villages have dried up due to lack of planning and allowing of constructions in the areas which used to act as catchment areas for these tanks. Several villages face shortage of drinking water though parts of Ramanagara and Channapatna towns get drinking water from the Cauvery. There are many projects like Kanva reservoir, Iglur reservoir and lift irrigation projects which are not properly implemented and utilised due to apathy of the elected representatives, says Sidde Gowda of A.V. Halli. Ramaiah of Chakkalur village points out that children of any families, which were dependent on irrigation, are now switching over to other professions not because that they were uninterested in cultivation but because of non-availability of sufficient water even in borewells. What the villagers want is development of existing reservoirs and proper management of rainwater to supply water to tanks, which would result in increasing the groundwater level. Good roads, proper infrastructure in schools, access to higher education, improved medical facility at a closer distance, are the other demands of the people living around Channapatna.
