Ready: Capt. G.R. Gopinath, independent candidate for Bangalore South constituency, launching his election symbol, the kite, in Bangalore on Saturday. — Bangalore: Founder of Deccan Airways G.R. Gopinath, who is contesting as an independent from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, on Saturday launched his election symbol — a kite. Speaking to presspersons after the launch, he said his election motif was symbolic of “freedom — of expression, to wear the clothes one wants, to choose one’s religion, to dream, and of ideas.” He announced his decision to form a citizen’s committee of South Bangalore in the coming week. He called upon all volunteers to assemble at his house-cum-office on April 18 (Saturday) to give shape to this committee. “I have decided to form a citizen’s committee which will build consensus on all matters of governance and will serve as a voice for different strata of society. Going forward, this initiative aims to sow the seeds of participative governance.” He said his enemy in this election was “not money, BJP’s Ananth Kumar or Congress’ Krishna Byregowda.” “My biggest enemy is the indifference of the large educated middle class to come forward and cast their vote. Like Gandhiji said, one must be the agent of change. I urge citizens to take the first step and come out to vote,” he added.
