Col. Bainsla joins BJP

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Kirori Singh Bainsla, the patron of the violent Gujjar agitation witnessed in Rajasthan in the past two years, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday.

The party is likely to field him from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha seat from where the Congress has announced the candidature of Union Minister Namonarain Meena.

Congress, in fact, had alleged in the past that the Gujjar agitation was initially sponsored by the then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Col. Bainsla made a brief appearance before media persons on Saturday evening at the BJP office here on the Sardar Patel Marg, along with State president Omprakash Mathur and national treasurer Ramdas Agarwal. However, excited crowds of Gujjars, witnessed during the heydays of the agitation which claimed more than 70 lives in police firing, was missing this time.

“I have joined the BJP with the sacred purpose of upholding the cause of an under privileged community like the Gujjars,” said Col.Bainsla.
