TIRUCHI: Local cable television channels and FM radios should not air any election related advertisements without the approval and permission of the Returning Officer (RO) of the constituency, Collector T. Soundiah has said. While national parties and their candidates could obtain the permission from the Election Commission, advertisements of all others must be submitted to the RO for permission and approval. For advertisements of recognised political parties, video and audio advertisements should be submitted to the ROs three days before broadcast. For unrecognised parties, advertisements would have to be submitted a week in advance. A separate cell has been set up to monitor poll related advertisements. Mr. Soundiah was speaking at a meeting to brief cable television/FM operators, printers and owners of marriage halls on election rules. Printers should not print any poll related material, including posters, pamphlets or notices, without written orders from the political parties or their candidates. All such material should carry the name and address of the printers. Copies of all these materials should be submitted to the Returning Officers/Assistant Returning Officers along with the photo copies of the orders from candidates/parties and the bills.
