AIADMK replaces two candidates

Special Correspondent

New nominees for Tiruvallur (SC), Perambalur Lok Sabha seats

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Saturday replaced the party candidates for Tiruvallur (SC) and Perambalur Lok Sabha constituencies with new faces.

She had nominated Tiruvallur district advocate wing secretary R. Rajan and Perambalur union secretary Maruthairaj as candidates for Tiruvallur and Perambalur constituencies.

The new candidates are G.K.Inbaraj for Tiruvallur and K.K.Balasubramanian for Perambalur.

Mr. Rajan has been replaced because he is a Dalit Christian and cannot contest from a reserved constituency. Mr. Balasubramanian, the party’s Tiruchi rural district secretary, has been given the ticket as the party wants to project a well-known face in the constituency.

The DMK has fielded actor Napoleon in Perambalur.

Later in the day, CPI (M) State secretary N.Varadarajan and central committee member G.Ramakrishan met Ms. Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence.

“We discussed how to coordinate the election campaign in all the 40 constituencies,” said Mr. Ramakrishnan.
