KOLLAM: The State unit of the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has called for strengthening the political front led by the Left parties for the security of the banking sector. In a statement here on Friday, the BEFI said that banks handled the life-time savings of the people. Only with a strong Left front would these savings be secure in banks. It was only because of a strong Left front intervention that the private sector was kept at bay from the banking sector. The pro-Left bank organisations had organised more than 50 bank strikes since 1991 to oppose moves for private sector control over the nationalised banks. These strikes had the strong support of the Left front Members of Parliament.
