Two Sri Lankan Tamils sentenced

TIRUCHI: Judicial Magistrate Court here on Monday sentenced two Sri Lankan Tamils to one year’s imprisonment each for indulging in unlawful activities.

The accused – Premraj (49) and ‘Diesel’ Kumar alias Sivakumar (43) were arrested by the Q Branch Tiruchi unit in March last year following information that they had received huge amount of hawala money for constructing a boat for the banned LTTE at Munambam in Kerala. The duo had planned to smuggle the boat out.

Following their arrest, the Q branch sleuths seized the boat that was under construction, besides confiscating Rs. 8.5 lakh cash, cell phones and incriminating documents from them. The trial was held in the Judicial Magistrate II Court here.
