Sports school admissions

TIRUCHI: The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) will admit students for classes VII, VIII, IX and XI at sports schools and hostels run by it in different parts of the State.

The SDAT is running sports schools for boys at Chennai, Neyveli and Thindal (Erode district); sports hostels at Tiruchi, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Chennai and Krishnagiri and sports hostels for girls at Erode, Tiruvannamalai and Namakkal.

By joining the sports hostel, young boys and girls could develop their sports skills alongside academics, a press release of Collector T. Soundiah issued here on Monday said.

Trials for selecting the candidates for admission into these schools and hostels for the academic year 2009-10 will be held in three levels – union, regional and State level.

The interested sportspersons can collect the application forms from all the middle, high and higher secondary schools in the district and from the office of the District Sports Officer at Anna Stadium in the city free of cost.

Filled applications should be submitted on the day of the union level trials, the release added.

The trials will be conducted in various unions in the following days at 8 a.m.:

April 28: Thottiyam union: Government HSS, Thottiyam; Manachanallur union: Government Boys HSS, Manachanallur; Uppliyapuram union: SVV HSS, Vairachettipalayam; Marungapuri union: Government HSS, Kovilpatti.

April 29: Musiri union: Government Boys HSS, Musiri; Pullambadi: Dalmia HSS, Dalmiapuram; Manapparai: Thiageswaralai HSS, Manapparai; Vaiyampatti: Government HSS, Vaiyampatti.

April 30: Thattiengarpettai: Government HSS, Thattiengarpettai; Tiruverumbur: Boiler Plant HSS, Kailasapuram; Thuraiyur: Zameendar HSS, Thuraiyur.

May 2: Anthanallur: Rathna HSS, Pettavaithalai; Lalgudi: Government HSS, Lalgudi; Manikandam: Government HS, Poonkodi.

May 4: Anna Stadium, Tiruchi city.

The residents of Tiruchi city and all those who could not attend the trials held earlier in the above unions could take part in the trials at Anna Stadium on May 4. For details, students can contact District Sports Officer C. Punniyamoorthy over phone: 0431- 2420685.
