Manikantan sizzles

KOLLAM: P.V. Manikantan lashed 139 runs off 78 balls as Masters CC (Thiruvananthapuram) crushed Ruby CC (Kollam) by 79 runs in the IPO Cricket Fest all-Kerala tournament at the Ashramom Maidan here on Monday.

Manikantan’s belligerent knock saw Masters pile up 244 for eight in 27 overs. The target proved tough for Ruby which folded up for 165 in the 22nd over. Ali Asgar (five for 21) and Sooraj (four for 20) shared the spoils for Masters.

City Cricketers (Thiruvananthapuram) ended Somerset CC’s run, cruising home by six wickets to move into the semifinals.

The scores:

Masters CC 244 for eight in 27 overs (P.V. Manikantan 139, M. Dijin 53) bt Ruby CC 165 in 21.3 overs (Rahul Dev 90, Sinil 41, Ali Asgar five for 21, Sooraj four for 20).

Somerset CC 124 in 23.3 overs (V.S. Shiju three for 26) lost to City Cricketers 127 for four in 13.1 overs (Akhil 39, M.E. Sanuth 37). — Principal Correspondent
