Muslim Forum to field candidate

Correspondent

Sirsi: Uttara Kannada District United Muslim Forum has decided to contest for the Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha seat on its own, according to its president N.A. Khan here on Thursday.

He said that R.A. Khazi, retired Deputy Conservator of Forests, will be its nominee. The nomination papers will be filed by its candidate on Saturday.

Muslims of the district had supported the Congress for the past two decades but the outcome was not in their favour. The party considered Muslims only as a vote-bank and nothing more. This time, Muslims had decided to bring in a change in the notion that they were the ardent supporters of the Congress, he said. He said that all Muslim organisations in Uttara Kannada would fight for their political rights.

There are 3.06 lakh Muslim votes in the constituency. With this, and with support from AHINDA, DSS and other exploited classes and intellectuals, the forum’s candidate would win the elections, he hoped.
