People will reject Margaret Alva again: Kageri

Correspondent

Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri

Karwar: Though Margaret Alva was rejected by the people of Uttara Kannada district in two elections, the Congress has chosen her again, said district in-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hegde at a press conference here on Thursday.

She lost by the highest margin in the State during the last election because she was a non-performer as a Member of Parliament.

The people of the district would reject her one more time, Mr. Kageri said.

The victory of the BJP candidate is a foregone conclusion, he said and added that the party apparatus is gearing up for the elections.

More than 25,000 workers would fan out into the Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency and ensure the victory of the party candidate Anant Kumar Hegde, Mr. Kageri said. He said that the Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa has violated the election code of conduct by issuing a “provocative statement” against the majority community.

Mr. Kageri urged the Election Commission to take cognisance of Mr. Thimmappa’s statement and arrest him immediately.

He alleged that the Congress leaders were issuing such statements to appease the minority community. If the Election Commission does not take action against Mr. Thimmappa, then the voters would teach a lesson to the Congress, Mr. Kageri said.

He said the voters would compare the United Progressive Alliance Government with the National Democratic Alliance Government, led by A.B. Vajpayee.

The rising prices of essential commodities, terrorism and unemployment are the main issues.

Despite the conspiracy to destabilise the BJP Government in the State by the Opposition parties, the Government, led by the B.S. Yeddyurappa, has made considerable achievements, he said.

Programmes such as Jana Spandana, Bhagylakshmi, Sandhya Suraksha have gained popularity among the common people and this will help the party emerge victorious. He said that despite the scarcity of water in the reservoirs, the Government could solve the power problem by borrowing from other States.

Mohan Limbikai, MLC, said that the State Government had implemented the Fifth Pay Commission report in toto.

He said that the younger generation is impressed by the State Government and would vote in favour of the party.

Fisheries Minister Anand Asnotikar said he won the by-election with a thumping margin and the people of the district would vote for the BJP to defeat Ms. Margaret Alva.

Kittur MLA Suresh Marihal, Khanapur MLA Pralhad Remani, District BJP president Vinod Prabhu and N.G. Kolle were present.
