Anant Kumar Hegde files nomination papers

Correspondent

Karwar: Anant Kumar Hegde, BJP candidate for Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, filed his nomination papers here on Thursday. Mr. Hegde, who was three times MP from the constituency, is trying his luck for the fourth time. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, 1998 and 2004. He lost the election in 1999.

He filed his nomination papers after addressing party workers in Karwar. Filing of nomination papers was a low-key affair.

Addressing a press meet in Karwar after filing his nomination papers, he said that Election Commission (EC) issued a notice to him on Wednesday on his reported statement against the minorities at Karwar and Mundgod. He would file his reply within time.

Stating that he had not said anything offensive, he justified his statement saying that it was based on fact and expressed the hope that the EC would interpret his statement in a subjective manner. Parrying a question whether he would stand by his statement or deny it, Mr. Hegde said people would come to know about that in a few days.

He expressed the confidence that the development works taken up by him would continue in future with his victory in the election. As a Member of Parliament he had worked hard to introduce schemes creating employment opportunities. Mr. Hegde said that he is in favour of environmental friendly industries.

He said he had worked hard to get the district declared as a bio-sphere and environmental heritage zone. This would materialise when he again gets elected to Parliament, he said. He said as MPhe had brought many schemes under agriculture, fisheries and horticulture sectors in the district.
